After countless years of standing watch as Guardian and Sacred Sentry of the Home Place Fairy Folk, Old Horse has gone off to join them in Fairyland.

Old Horse, Sentry, Guardian and Friend.

The Home Place Fairies long ago enchanted the puppets Lady Kathryn made with possibilities.

If conditions are right these puppets are able to run about the fields and gardens here at my farm.

Until a puppet has been touched by a mortal child whose heart is  fresh with possibilities for the future, an ordinary tethered earth bound puppet they must remain.

Dragon was long ago touched by such a child enabling him to run freely without human escort throughout the woodland and gardens.

Lovely Luna Puppet had not been touched by a child of possibility and so she stood patiently waiting, growing rather sad.

The fairies La Rosa and Nightingale came by for short visits and told her not to give up hope, that eventually the right little human would come her way.

But La Rosa and Nightingale never stayed for long, they had garden chores to attend to and so Luna was left alone tethered in one place by a pole.

Luna waited what seemed like a very long time for a human child to come.

She waited… and she waited.

Until one day a little girl came into the garden who was filled with much wonder and believed in all sorts of possibilities.

This little girl took one look at the forlorn puppet Luna had become and whispered,

“Believe in yourself Luna”.

Then she grabbed hold of the stick that tethered Luna to the ground and made her dependent on humans for flight.

She swished the stick this way and that, faster and faster.

The little girl swished Luna until Luna believed in the possibilities of her own forward motion.

Then the child set the puppet back onto the ground to stand on her own.

Luna began to sparkle with hope and suddenly there seemed to be all sorts of possibilities.

Once again the child took firm hold of Luna’s post and tether and told her…

“Shhhh sweet Luna, you always held the ability to set yourself free, all you had to do was to believe in your own strengths, your own potential possibilities.”

And then the child released Luna,

and then the post and child disappeared.

Luna stood alone, no longer was she a puppet tethered to the ground.

Luna was a brilliant moth filled with possibilities and she fluttered, sparkling with happiness as she took flight.

Sometimes at twilight, I catch a glimpse of Luna in the gardens fluttering about on her own.

Recently a group of children wrote down their wishes in my garden and released them to the sky hoping the fairies would receive them.

As Seamstress to the Fairies I know the fairy Folk quite well, and each year I help a new group of children prepare their wishes to send off to Fairyland.

Each child is allowed one wish and into a tiny wicker basket the wishes are placed. I then attach a bouquet of balloons to the tiny basket of wishes which if one looked ever so closely they would notice the paper upon which the wishes is written  has begun to glimmer ever so slightly and glow. No ordinary balloons are these, but magically enchanted balloons. Once they are attached to the tiny wicker basket, the wishes that have been placed within will rise up into the balloons filling them with promise and direction. When released by a special someone the balloons will fly way up into the sky headed directly for Fairyland.

Each year on a special day a different group of children release their wishes to the Fairies.

Meanwhile in Fairyland the Fairy Folk await the arrival of baskets of wishes.

Fairyland is wherever and whatever you want to dream it to be. It is a forever place in the Kingdom of Childhood where all  wishes and dreams planted today sprout, blossom and grow into all of your tomorrows .

A place where hopes,wishes, dreams and promises really can come true.

Fairy Fine wishes for the New Year from Old Horse and the Home Place Fairies to the Horses of Vieques.

Out and about Fairy Folk are gathering nuts and fruits by the wayside.

With carts and rik shaw they collect acorns and walnuts; apples and pears.

They play as they work, they work as they play.

Together with Old Horse they dance and they sway.

The blueberry barrens of Blue Fairy Hill have turned scarlet with color as leaves fall down all around me,

and I cannot help but wonder as I wander at the brilliance of life.

At the magnificence of nature’s bounty; her natural beauty, and our duty as stewards of this land to preserve this precious environment we share with the Plant Kingdom; Fairy Folk and Wildlings.

Fairies believe that each and every day is a gift never to be taken for granted.

Sometimes it is what lies closet, directly before us that we miss and do not see.

So much wonder around us, tiny wonders everywhere.

The possibilities, they are endless…

Early spring dandelion greens are so common that folks often overlook them for the fairy delicious treat that they are.

When gathering dandelion greens I am very selective, snipping the most blemish free young greens I can find.

The fairy best greens are those tender leaves whose buds have not yet gone to stem or flower; I pinch or snip a handful of these greens .

To cook dandelion greens:

Start a medium pot of about 1″ of water to a boil.

Rinse your greens and set aside. If you harvest only young greens there will be no need to chop them smaller or remove veins.

In a small fry pan saute for a minute  a clove of fresh minced garlic. I like to add a bit of chopped green onions and some chopped slices of radish at this time, saute a minute more…maybe. Remove fry pan from heat.

At this time drop your dandelion greens into the pot of boiling water and simmer for about 4 minutes. Then drain greens in a colander and press the water out.

Finally toss your cooked dandelion greens into your fry pan of garlic and what have you, turn heat back on med low and with two wooden spoons toss and turn your greens this way and that to mix flavors. When warmed through set on plate and serve with a sunny egg on top. Perhaps add a bit of goat cheese, some garden chives, a slice of tomato and red pepper too.

Be creative , fairies love beauty and believe cooking is as much about creative expression as it is about appetite.

Of course harvest your greens from a no foot traffic area and where no pesticides have been used.

Spring has arrived here on the north side of a small mountain in Maine.

Home Place Fairy folk are busy sprinkling my gardens with fairy dust, encouraging plants to sprout, blossom and grow.

Children help with gardening chores, enjoying the wonders of the natural world around themselves.

Swallow tail butterflies arrive savoring the sweet nectar of lilacs in bloom.

A Robin has nested among the greenhouse pots and laid a beautiful smooth blue egg which the fairies have sprinkled with protective dust.

Older fairies teach younger ones the art of spreading fairy dust ground precious and fine.

Once educated, out into the garden these young fairies go to spread their magic.

Fairy Dogs serve a special purpose. When they flutter and fly they circle the gardens round and round, increasing their speed. This causes the air to circulate and  fairy dust to scatter both high and low so all plants are touched with this magical powder.

The Fairy Seamstress makes certain all bird baths and fountains are full of fresh clean well water for the nourishment of Fairy Folk and Wild-lings.

There really is magic in every garden,

The days have cooled down here at the farm and late crops are ready for harvest.

We have bountiful quantities of heirloom tomatoes,

along with kale, broccoli, carrots and beans; late lettuce, leeks and scallions….to name just a few.

A couple times a week at twilight the gnomes will come down from the knoll and cast secret enchantments among the herb and perennial flower beds which will nourish and protect these plants throughout the upcoming winter.

September is a month of transition, the days have become shorter, the air cooler.

Wildlings and Fairy Folk are busier than ever gathering their winter food supplies as well as spreading enchantments and fairy dust where ever they go…
