Full Moon Midnight Blue

On the north side of a small mountain in Maine a Full Blue Moon will rise into the sky at about 8:30 pm on Friday July 31st.

When a second full moon rises in one month it is called Blue, even though it isn’t actually the color blue.

In early times the name Blue Moon was given to the second  Full Moon in a month to distinguish it from the usual 3 Full Moons in a season.

Native American cultures and Fairy Folk named each Full Moon to reflect times of planting, harvest and seasonal conditions. When an extra Full Moon appeared it was called Blue, just to keep the other Full Moon names constant throughout the calendar year.

Since it is a rare occurrence, the term once in a Blue Moon has come to mean a rare occasion.

Blue Moons appear every 2 or 3 years.

The next Blue Moon will occur in 2018.

As a Blue Moon rises high over the hills here in Maine,  Fairy Folk and Wildlings come prancing out of the forest with wee baskets of fairy dust.

They dance and they  prance through the gardens,

the meadows, the orchards and hills.

A Full Blue Moon has a calming affect and asks that  Fairy Folk and Wildlings stop and take a long look around themselves to see the bigger picture.

Lulah Blue knows that a Blue Moon signals a limited period of exquisite possibilities; taking her time noticing every detail, she is the last of the fairies to leave the forest.

The lighting of her wand on a Blue Full Moon signifies the duality of choices which is always present when two full moons share the same month.

Mae Belle answers Lulah Blue, lighting her own wand, she releases fairy dust to signify the magnificence of this hour.

I follow Blue Belle across the blueberry barrens as fairies dance and twirl all around me.

Blue Belle leads me to the top of the hill where a handsome young Wizard of The Future has taken up temporary residence , although in truth by living in the past as well as the future he lives no where and everywhere at the same time.

The Wizard of The Future is too young to know everything he carries within himself and so he comes on the July Full Moon Blue to consult with the Fairy Folk.

He stands firmly on hallowed ground as the Fairies bless and christen him with enough hope and possibility to sustain him on his long journey into the future where all dreams and mysteries reside.

The Fairies never share all of their secrets nor all of their wisdom, they are wise enough to know that self gained knowledge is every individuals rightful path in life.

“Time present and time past

Are both perhaps present in time future

And time future in time past.

If all time is eternally present

All time is unredemable.

What might have been and what has been

Point to one end, which is always present.”

T.S. Eliot

Dawn approaches, the Blue Moon begins her descent and the sun her rise, as Fairy Folk return to their forest chambers.

As I wander down from the hilltop through the orchard, towards the gardens and home, the Wildlings depart for their own destinations  and I can’t help noticing that the young Wizard is nowhere to be seen.

Happy Full Moon Blue!

Out of the Forest

Forest Fae

Fairy folk leave the forest, entering  gardens to work and play.

A Fairyland all your own.

There they happily sprinkle fairy dust before fluttering off on their merry way.

Not always visible to human eyes, Home Place Fairy folk surround us in the gardens we care for and the homes which we love.

A Tiny Wonders

They are the so called Little People, Good Folk, Fairies or Fae.

When next you wander about your gardens look a bit more closely and you just might see a wee little Home Place Fairy enjoying the day.

She Arrived Past Midnight

Yesterday with help from the fairies I  mulched the paths through the Garden of Earthly Delights with straw.

This morning as I wandered about I spied a little fairy dog slumbering beneath the Pocahontas Lilac bush.

I did not recognize this little fairy dog and did not want to disturb her. However I was rather curious to know from where she had traveled, as the sound of her breathing suggested she had flown far.

Sensing my watchfulness the little fairy dog awoke with a sigh.

She said her name was Luna and that she had flown all the way to Maine from Puerto Rico with a gentle blowing, steady wind.

In Puerto Rico she is called a Perro Hadas (Dog Fairy) .

Luna had heard other Perro Hadas had flown to Maine before her in search of new experiences and adventures, wanting to broaden their views.

Luna decided to catch the next wind and venture out into the world and see what she could see for herself, arriving at our farm here in Maine just past midnight.

Luna and I made friends quickly and I gave her a teeny tiny collar with her very own teeny tiny tag so she would forever feel welcome and part of our Home Place Fairy family at the farm.

Full Strawberry Moon

This evening the Full Strawberry Moon will rise from the east right around sunset and peak in the south shortly after midnight.

Here in Maine and New England this moon is a signal to the Fairy Folk to prepare for the gathering of ripening fruit such as strawberries.

At twilight little Nina will be at the edge of the Enchanted Forest in a tiny clearing called a glen where she will discover a beautiful patch of wild strawberries all alight with fairy dust.

Each year as the Full June Moon rises Nina wanders and seeks out delicious wild strawberries, the first fruits of spring!

Pink Magic

One morning in Maine a little fairy called La Rosa was out in the meadow with her fairy dog waiting for her friend Nightingale.

Suddenly a fairy horse appeared, her name was Scout, she is a friend of the wee folk as well as of Old Horse who is the guardian of the Home Place Fairies.

La Rosa and Nightingale love to run with Scout.

SONY DSC

Did you know that Fairy Horses have the ability of selective invisibility? This means that unless they are flying these magical horses are able to make their wings invisible if they so choose. This makes it more difficult for humans to spot them.

SONY DSC

Old Horse does not have wings, he was long ago enchanted by the fairies and though he ages, he never grows old.

SONY DSC

Old Horse is the guardian of the Home Place Fairies as well as a companion to generations of mortal children who believe in the possibility of the Fairy Folk.

SONY DSC

Just like Scout, Nightingale and La Rosa have the ability as all Home Place Fairies do to make their wings invisible whenever they want to.

Old Horse has alerted the fairies that mortal children are approaching and suggests they depart for the Enchanted Forest with Scout.

SONY DSC

Humankind is not prepared to see fairy folk and flying horses running about the meadow in the light of day no matter how much they may want to believe and so the fairies and Scout must head back to the forest before the children can see them.

SONY DSC

“Come Scout”, La Rosa whispers ,”to the Enchanted Forest we go”.

Pink Magic (10)

Old Horse bids the fairies good day and he heads to greet the children. As they walk through the meadow to the stable one child looks over her shoulder and catches sight of a tiny soft twinkle.

“Could it be a fairy?”, she wonders as she walks away with Old Horse and the others for a day of adventure and play.

Long Cold Moon

In North America the Long Night’s Moon rose in the east around sunset on December 5th shinning bright from dusk until dawn on the 6th. Full moon happened just before sunrise December the 6th.

This is the last full moon before the winter solstice and is called Long Cold Moon or Full Cold Moon because it occurs when nights are longest and days short.

Meanwhile… way down low along the root line of a Great Oak tree the Home Place Fairies slumber snug and cozy two beside two, far below where the frost fingers glow.
